OMG I LOVE CHIHAYAFURU!!
At first I thought it was some typical soppy romance shojo anime. But omg I'm glad I picked the series up and found out I was wrong :love:
It's so awesomeeeee!! It's main focus is not on the romance, and rather on the sport/card game "Competitive Karuta". One good thing about this Karuta is it doesn't have many techincal terms and the rules are easy to understand. So it isn't very confusing. The battles are intense too XD (Tho the outcome can sometimes be predicted easily.. Since it's a manga lol.) I can't say that it is realistic tho.. But acceptable. Hahaha
The characters are very likable too. The main character Chihaya is a relatively unique shoujo lead.. She is attractive but is is always known to be a "beauty in vain" cuz the moment she speaks or does something people don't find her pretty anymore lol. She is also a very strong Karuta player. I like how it doesn't focus from her becoming from a noob to a expert, that would be too long and boring. I like how she is already good and yet still tries to improve. Well she cries alot tho.. But I can accept that cuz she cries at really emotional moments and not just cry for no reason.
The 2 male leads are superrr cute too XD Arata, the main dude in glasses, has a very cute Fukui accent XD I like how he calls the other characters' names. "Chihaya" "Taichi" XD~~ Cute haha.. The way Chihaya and Arata like each other is really cute.. It's not too "cheesy" or "overpowering" such that I will feel the chills or get goosebumps. It's so cute, pure and innocent. They genuinely like each other (and Karuta and Karuta and Karuta LOL).. He is also very strong. People critic his lack of character arc but he doesn't get much screen time in the 1st place, does he? Lols.. His character is kinda solid right from the start. But at the later chapters there seem to be some kind of change... So maybe we get more of Arata :D [BTWWWWW I SHIP ARATA X CHIHAYA FOREVERRR AND ARATA IS MY FAV CHAR AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH]
And Taichi. Initially I think he is character with just his "good looks, good results, just damn good at everything" that gets him going .. But in season 2 I start to like him a little more as they show his more inner emotions. Besides the "good looks, good results, just damn good at everything" part of him, I think his character is more realistic than the other 2 leads. He isn't as "pure" as the other 2.. And real humans are never pure anyway. They always have bad thoughts inside them, the only difference is whether they allow them to cloud your decisions. Taichi has shown to have done some cunning things.. But I can't say they are very evil.. Sometimes human need to do some slightly bad things to simply defend themselves from bad things too. I also think he is realistic too cuz he is conflicted within him. He wants to give up.. But he doesn't want to give up too. He gives his best, but still fail to succeed, because he thinks too much.
The side characters have alot of personality too. It feels like they are human too and not just "extra A and B" of a movie. They all have their emotions, strengths, weaknesses, likes and dislikes. I like how all of these are establised and yet it doesn't feel like the story has dragged because of "extra content". And Shinobu the Queen is so beautiful haha.. And cute with her weird taste of fashion XD They show that even the Queen is just a human.. And not God (Like some "bosses" of many anime, they are like.. Flawless? It's just weird.. they are strong cuz they are strong.. Nth else Lol.) Even side side characters like Hyoro and Sudo the "do S" feels human.
The art is good too! I like the character designs. They all look very different, and not just characters with the same body just different hair and face and height. The anime OST is freaking nice too.. Some gives the "Miyazaki movie" OST feel and I think one of them gives the American 3D animated movie feel. Awesome man.. After I finish S2 I will go read the manga.. And hope there will be S3 of this awesome anime.. It has also inspired me to memorise the Kimariji of the 100 Karuta poems.. But my memory sucks.. I only memorised 12 and I feel like I start to forget some of them already.. Pathetic Lol! Once I memorised all I will print out the karuta cards wheeee!!

Everyone said Rei was the hero. Yes Rei was indeed the Hero. However, did Rei have a choice? No! Because if Rei didn't sacrifice himself, Haruka would be sitting there sobbing his heart out the whole day. And Makoto and Nagisa would be sulking the whole day too thinking about Rin, Rin and RIN. He probably wouldn't want to deal with that bullshit. They wouldn't be able to swim the relay properly anyway, if all they're thinking about is Rin. I wouldn't bother to swim a relay with a bunch of people that are thinking about other stuff, and I'm the only one seriously thinking about the team.
I really pity Rei. 1st Nagisa begged and pestered him to join the swimming club and he even embarrased himself in front of another school. (During the Samezuka practice.) He didn't even freaking know how to swim. Later when he saw how beautiful swimming could be, he decided to join. (At that time, he had nothing to lose anyway.) The other 3 of them were good swimmers, they taught him how to swim, and he even almost drowned trying to catch up with them (That was a little stupid on his part, but yeah it showed how much he wanted to improve to become like the other 3.) As he gradually improved, he started to feel like a team with the rest and hoped to improve even more so as to not drag them down during the medley relay.
Then later the old friend Rin shows up during the prefecturals and screwed everything up. He won Haruka and became freaking complacent and said that he will never swim with Haruka again causing Haruka to sink into this little emotional piece of shit.
After that Haruka GOT OVER Rin and became Free for real, and decided to improve his swimming for the current Iwatobi team. But WHAT NOW? Rin saw them swimming relay and got all jelly.
Then Rin joined the Samezuka relay just because he wanted to relieve his old times?? And that binded Haruka AGAIN.
Did I even mention how un-sportsman like Rin and Haruka were? When I was watching the last episode I was like what the fuck are you serious. They're 17 years old, not 14 year old kids. Rin wanted to swim with the Iwatobi guys again and hence REQUESTED the captain to put him in the medley relay. And I think Captain Mikoshiba agreed because he knew Rin had what it takes - he swims fast. However, all he does is keep sulking about the past and how he wanted to swim with Haruka again and really disrespected his other relay mates. Have you seen how PISSED they were? No matter how much of a Rin fan you are you gotta see how asshole-y he acted in the team. None of them liked him. Did they sign up for that? NO. They probably were a good team with the previous butterfly dude and then the captain transferred him out just to put Rin in. And Rin just kept cursing and swearing during every practice and acted as if he was the most unhappy guy in the world even tho HE CHOSE THIS HIMSELF.
Rin didn't even reflect on that till the end even tho Mikoshiba told him the reason straight out and flat. He kept assuming that he got kicked out of the relay team because he sucked at swimming. As I said, Captain Mikoshiba acknowledged his skills and that's why he was allowed to join the relay team. But he disappointed the captain and the team mates with his lack of sportsmanship and thus he was kicked out. Then later he acted like a stupid brat and screwed his 100m free big time. Ok I understand u are fucking upset but since Samezuka is supposed to be a elite swimming school, you just freaking embarrased your whole school. (Well if he thought of that he wouldn't be kicked out of the relay in the first place.) The only reason why Captain Speedo forgave you is because if he didn't, THE RIN FANGIRLS WILL RAGE FOR NO REASON AGAIN like how they lashed out on him when he kicked Rin out of the relay, even tho captain made a totally correct and rational decision for the whole team. (I'm sure captain didn't decide that all of a sudden, he observed Rin for a very long time.)
Oh and how he treats Nitori like shit? If I'm Nitori I would have moved the hell out of that room and get away from that bastard already. Now I don't want to sound like a Rin hater, and I'm not a Rin hater, but can you see how shitty he treats Nitori? People hate Nitori and say he's irritating and that he should not butt into Rin's business. But they see each other ALMOST ALL THE TIME except during classes. Of course Nitori would be concerned. Yes, irritating at times, but it DOES make sense. If Nitori was a cold and uncaring bastard then fans would be irritated again. Lol. But anyways, even tho I agree that sometimes Nitori should just shut up and leave that shark dude alone, I think Nitori deserves an award also. He knows Rin will lash out at him and yet he still keeps dishing out encouraging comments to Rin. If I were Nitori I would have left him to kill himself already (LOL, I'm not very kind eh).
Ok and Haruka. Beginning I kind of like Haruka, and almost till the end. But the last episode was a total flop for me in terms of Haruka. If Rei didn't sacrifise himself. If they couldn't find Rin. Is he gonna ditch the whole team and abandon ship? Despite training for months? Despite his school mates taking their time off to travel all the way to the competition site to support them? What sportsmanship is that? I only see him acting as a bratty kid that will sulk at some corner of his room if not given what he wanted. He trained with Rei. And he trained with the others. He can't do this to his team mates and flush their months of practice and anticipation down the drain. The only reason why people still support Haruka because he's a hot 2D bishounen. If people like him existed in real life they would be outcasted already. Yet Makoto and Nagisa and even Rei kept spoonfeeding and supporting him till the end - that's why he could act this way because they didn't want him to be unhappy. As captain, Makoto didn't really make a responsible desision this time but there was nothing he or Nagisa could do anyway since Haru was technically the leader of the clique (Lol).
Just because they wanted to be Free doesn't mean they could disrespect the organisers of the competiton, and everyone else. Did you see the look on Samezuka's captain? How would you like if your team mate swam like shit for your school and yet gave his best for other schools? If it were you I bet wouldn't be able to just laugh it off. I understand this is just fictional and anime but... I think the writers have taken it too far. (Well, not as if other anime are better [laughs] :P) But even tho I've said this much... I enjoyed the anime on the whole, the awesome water and swimming animation and of course, good looking 2D guys.
So, it is almost confirmed there is a 2nd season (See you next summer) But I wonder what they can write about this. New characters? Should be. Better plot? Probably not. But hopefully. I'm not eagerly dying for the next season to come, but I do look foward to see how they can stretch these characters. However if captain Mikoshiba already graduated next season I will be kind of sad. Hahahahaha..

It was a world of peace. Temporarily. Titans have not appeared around Wall Rose for several months after its breach. People are enjoying this timing of peace, yet living on the edge, not knowing when a titan will appear.
Some people were still catious, ready to evacuate anytime, while others, are letting their guard down after months of peace. However, a titan, deviant type, was ambushing itself behind Wall Rose, ready to attack anytime.
The titan decided to attack. It went through the breach of Wall Rose that was barely fixed. The Scouting Legion had got hold of this news from the Stationary Troops and rushed over, but they were too late. The titan had killed 115 humans on the spot.
The Scouting Legion charged towards the titan, and attacked. Some attempted to distract it, while others aimed for the aimed for its nape of the neck. The titan was intelligent. While constantly protecting the nape of its neck, it swatted the Scouting Legion soldiers like flies, and destroyed 50 villages in its path towards Wall Sina. He killed a total of 225 villages and soldiers.
The titan proceeded. This time, upperclass soldiers of the Scouting Legion charged towards it. Some proved to be of no challenge to it, but some dealed a considerable amount of damage on it. One of the soldiers almost suceeded in slicing the titan's neck - but failed, when the titan grabbed the soldier, and tossed him in its mouth. It felt extremely annoyed, and crushed a village to vent its anger.
At this time, more upperclass soldiers were after the titan's neck (literally). The titan was struggling now, but its aim to destroy Wall Sina was still in place. This nasty deviant - was small, but had extreme brute strength. It drilled a wall in Wall Sina, but little did it know, traps were set around it, and while it fell into the Legion's ambush, one of the soldiers cut the ligaments of its feet. It fell flat, right there, on the spot. It fell in fashion. It fell and crushed several of the villagers who were evacuating, and in its desperate attempt to kill more humans, it swung its arm around, killing a total of 115 humans after its temporary fall. It would soon be able to stand again.
During the time that it couldn't stand, 160 villagers took the chance and evacuated towards the breach in Wall Sina. The Scouting Legion wanted to take this opportunity to cut the titan down before it could recover. However this deviant had overwhelming regeneration powers - it regenerated much faster any of the titans they had seen so far. It stood up, and charged towards the breach at full speed. No horses and 3d manuveur gear could catch up with it. It went on a rampage after it went behind Wall Sina, eating any human that it could see. This time, it ate a total of 700 humans, while avoiding and defending from the attacks of the elites from the Scouting Legion.
The elites alone were not enough to kill this titan. The Scouting Legion gathered 113 of their soldiers to pin the titan down, and their strongest fighter, Coporal Rivalle, together with Mikasa, slain the titan's neck, and finally killed it, ending this catastrophe caused by just one titan.
